Godly Play Advent

Conversation | Joyce Tangi | 8th November 2020

This is a wonderful way to remind the entire family, and visitors, of the “reason for this Season!”

Sharing the beauty and mystery of Advent through Godly Play with your children is something truly special! As we all create different ways in explaining the Season of Advent leading up to Christmas, we can hands down say Godly play is a great way in showing that to your youngsters but as well as the whole family.

At the Camden theological Library, they hold all sets of Godly Play, all readily available for users to borrow! Families can borrow the story box for at least a month. A minimum of one month would be needed for parents to learn the story, retell it several times and give the children a chance to work with it.

Having watched Godly play of advent serval times, there is always a new idea or comment you find out! The Colours, the candles and the journey! The intentionality of each individual piece holds a important part in the story! I love the way the directions for each story, including the text, wondering questions and other follow-up ideas are welcomed and discussed which could allow children to have a say in how they see the story!

Godly Play trainers, are holding an Advent Mini-Retreat at Manly UC on Sunday 13th December, 2pm to 4pm. Numbers will be restricted due to our Covid safe plan so bookings will be required – https://www.trybooking.com/685929

Come and join us they slow down and relax, with playfulness, stories and reflection, to prepare ourselves for Christmas.

The afternoon retreat includes …
– Time to slow down to find the calm within
– A time to ponder the Christmas story
– Personal reflection with creative options
– Prayer for one another
